زارت لارا المعبد التاريخي مرتين في تومب رايدر , الاولى كانت في الجزء الرابع تومب رايدر الايحاء الاخير عام 1999 والثانية كانت في فيلم تومب رايدر عام 2001 , دعنا نتعلم المزيد عن هذا المعبد

بني مجمع معابد أنغكور وات ومعناها بالخميرية "مدينة المعابد" في النصف الأول من القرن الثاني عشر في كمبوديا ، واستغرق بنائه اكثر من 30 عاماً على يد ملك الخمير سرفارمان الثاني ( حكم من 1113 ولغاية وفاته في 1150) لكن العمل بعد وفاته توقف وترك بعض الاماكن الخارجية غير مكتمله, بعد سبعة وعشرون عاماً من موت الملك سرفارمان الثاني تم احتلال انغكور وات من قبل التشامس العدو التقليدي للخمريين, لكن استرجع بعد ذلك الملك الجديد جيافارمان السابع الإمبراطورية ، وأكمل العمل على المعبد واعاد تجديدة

كان المعبد مخصصاً في الأصل للإله الهندوسي "فيشنو" ثم أصبح بعد ذلك معبداً بوذياً. ويعد هذا المعبد أكبر المعابد الموجودة في حديقة أنغكور الأثرية وأكثرها احتفاظاً برونقها، وأضخم أثر ديني في العالم، وينظر إليه بوصفه الأعجوبة الثامنة من عجائب الدنيا نظراً لحجمه الضخم وطرازه المعماري المميز والذي يحتوي على اكثر من 2000 قطعة فنية منحوته على جدرانه


Angkor Wat Translating as “City of Temples” in Khmer, Angkor Wat was built in the first half of the 12th century in Cambodia and took more than 30 years to construct by the king of Khmer Suryavarman II (ruled 1113 – c and died 1150) but work seems to have ended shortly after the king's death, leaving some of the bas-relief decoration unfinished , In 1177, approximately 27 years after the death of Suryavarman II, Angkor was sacked by the Chams, the traditional enemies of the Khmer. Thereafter the empire was restored by a new king, Jayavarman VII, who continue to work on the temple and restored it .

Originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, later it became a Buddhist temple. The largest and best preserved of the Angkor Archaeological Park’s temples, and the world’s largest religious monument, it is regarded as the Eighth Wonder of the World due to its impressive size and distinctive artistic style which contain more than 2000 piece of art engraved on the walls.
